One of the Air Jordan 3’s defining features is its iconic ‘Elephant’ print used on the toe and heel bumpers. This pattern provides the literal inspiration for the latest remix of the popular retro basketball shoe and taps into the animal’s sandy habitat, resulting in the aptly named ‘Desert Elephant’. JD Sports again prove themselves as a sneaker oasis and will be releasing this anticipated AJ3 this week.
The ‘Desert Elephant’ takes the ‘Black Cement’ template and replicates all of the important bits: tumbled black leather protects the uppers, while fiery red accents dip the eyelets and Jumpman logo. As for the remaining panels, Jordan Brand add their own spin with sandy tan suede on the tongue, eyestays and ankle collar. However, the most pertinent edit here is its namesake ‘Desert Elephant’ print, which coats the crackly pattern in rich caramel brown.
Beyond the shoes, the packaging celebrates the print by covering the entirety of the shoebox in it, and the motif of an elephant, person dunking and what’s presumably Michael Jordan can be found on the lid. This graphic is also located on the insoles.
