Update August 1, 2022: On-foot shots of the upcoming Air Jordan 3 'Fire Red' have surfaced via @stylelikekay. The beloved retro is slated to land on September 10.
The Air Jordan 3 is one of the most important silhouettes in basketball shoe history. When it debuted back in 1987, it saved Michael Jordan's relationship with Nike, established Tinker Hatfield as the torchbearer for Air Jordan design, introduced elephant print to Jordan Brand's lexicon and struck a perfect balance between sport and style that the world's biggest sneaker brands are still trying to nail down today. Its influence and impact are hard to overstate, and that's why the return of its OG 'Fire Red' colourway is such big news. Today, official images of the 'Fire Red' retro have surfaced, and they provide the true-to-the-original details that Jumpman junkies crave.
The colourblocking used on the 'Fire Red' is beautiful in its simplicity, blending hits of its eponymous red tone with a crisp white leather upper, elephant print detailing (which has been lightened a few shades) on the heel and forefoot and touches of a softer grey around the eyestays for contrast. What makes this iteration so special, though, is the Nike Air hit on the heel – an original detail that was missing from the past two 'Fire Red' retros, which were last released in 2013 and 2007. The 'Fire Red' is one of the Air Jordan 3's four original colourways as well, originally releasing alongside the equally legendary 'Black Cement,' 'White Cement' and 'True Blue' schemes.
The return of the Air Jordan 3 'Fire Red' has been rumoured since early this year, and though it was originally set to release in August it's been pushed back until September 10. It'll release via SNKRS and select Jordan Brand stockists, with adult-sized pairs priced at $210, grade school pairs at $150, preschool pairs at $100 and infant/toddler pairs at $80. Keep it locked to SF for a buying guide as the release date draws closer!
