Nike Celebrate the LGBTQIA+ Community with the Air Max 97 ‘Be True’

Over the years, Nike have celebrated the LGBTQIA+ community through their ‘Be True’ special releases, which usually feature various sneakers, apparel and activations. Nike are already kicking off the celebrations in preparation for 2023’s Pride Month in June, and a first look at an upcoming ‘Be True’ Nike Air Max 97 is here!

Last year saw a number of memorable releases, including two iterations of the Nike SB Dunk Low. One of the pairs actually featured a top layer that rubbed off to reveal a bright palette that drew from the hues of activist Gilbert Baker’s iconic Pride flag.

The design of Nike’s ‘Be True’ AM97 for 2023 offers a decorative take on the classic pair’s uppers. To celebrate the community, the AM97 has been dressed up in a rainbow-esque gradient of colours in mixed materials, ranging from light blue to deep red. Underneath, its uppers are constructed with a light cream leather that’s met with off-white tongues and white midsoles. Removable ‘Be True’ charms are also found below the lateral Swoosh branding.

There’s currently no release date locked in for the Nike Air Max 97 ‘Be True’, but you can expect the pairs to be landing in the months leading up to Pride Month in June.
