Event Recap: Rair, an Exhibition Celebrating London's Love for Air Max
Jointly curated by Sneaker Freaker and The Drop Date, and presented by leading luxury resale marketplace StockX, the Rair exhibition recently kicked off in London, attracting over 300 attendees — including local OGs, collectors, and the industry’s movers and shakers.
Showcasing a selection of rare and highly-desirable Air Max editions from the past two decades, the exhibition’s jam-packed launch rolled well into the night, spilling out into the streets of Soho.
It truly was an Air Max Day celebration for the ages.
Fuelled by beer and burritos, guests navigated a unique DIY-style exhibition display, which featured iconic colourways such as the Parra x Patta Nike Air Max 1 'Cherrywood' — a true Grail to collectors, which most recently sold in the UK for £4500 (approx. $6000). A timeline of OG boxes was also present within the middle of the space.
Each exhibited sneaker was accompanied with information detailing history and significance, giving fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in the story, not just the sneaker. The event’s display boxes were provided by customers who’d shipped product to StockX UK, adding a collaborative element to the event, as well as reducing waste.
The three-way collaboration was done without any influence from Beaverton, allowing London’s Air Max community to come to the fore.
Sneaker Freaker came through with the knowledge and creative, while The Drop Date procured the sneakers from London collectors, and assisted with the display build. Last but not least, StockX brought their marketplace straight to the space, with rare models up for purchase in real-time via specially designed QR codes.
Don’t forget, while the exhibition is open, visitors can win a brand new pair of any of the Air Maxes on display, thanks to StockX. Only five winners will be chosen. As if you needed more reason to check it out!
Rair: An Exhibition Celebrating London's Love for Air Max runs until March 31, at 15 Bateman Street in Soho, London.
