For anyone who’s been into sneakers since the early-2000s, seeing the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Lemonade’ may present an occurrence of déjà vu. After all, this yellow retro runner first released in very limited numbers as part of the famed Powerwall collection back in 2006, and wild sightings have been few and far between for the past 15 years. With the imminent retro coming in a matter of weeks, this really is a case of history repeating itself. There are, of course, some key changes.

Forming a larger soda (aka soft drink or pop) collection as seen by the ‘Limeade’ and ‘Strawberry Lemonade’ editions that preceded, the ‘Lemonade’ is an almost one-for-one reissue of the Powerwall OG, save for the drink-based inspiration. Nike have swapped out the classic Nike Air–branded tongue label for a heritage version of the logo with a lemon cross-section behind it, and added plenty of lemon graphics to the green insoles.

Elsewhere, it’s a faithful reproduction in all-yellow leather and mesh uppers. A repeating bubbly Air pattern is printed across the midfoot, U-throat, and heel counter panels, which also happen to like a flash. Some green contrast comes through on the laces and heel branding to complete a pretty literal interpretation of a lemon in sneaker form.
