Style Recap: Sneaker Takeaways from LFW FW19
We thought New York Fashion Week would showcase plenty of mind-boggling collaborations that would reshape the sneakerssphere as we know it. However, we were throughly let down with hardly any sneakers even making it onto the catwalks.
London proved to be very different.
We had Burberry channel the sophisticated dad shoe, while Vivienne Westwood turned on the reflectors — and that was just the runway. On the streets, we had an array of high-end runners, as well as a rainbow of colours worn by London's fashion elite.
Get ready, because London just out-fashioned another fashion capital.
Burberry Channeled the Sophisticated Dad Shoe
Burberry have undergone some drastic changes now that Ricardo Tisci has taken over at the helm. The heritage English label flexed on their home soil, taking the sneaker spotlight on the runway with an impressive display of colourways and out-there design.
Channeling a more sophisticated fashion-conscious dad who doesn't rock bootcut jeans and New Balance 624s, this lineup is for the poppas who don head-to-toe Burberry.
Vivienne Westwood Turned the Reflectors on
Fashion's sweetheart Vivienne Westwood put on an amazing show full of meaningful designs displaying her trademark punk aesthetic. Taking a look at the sneakers that hit the runway, Westwood sent down countless boots. The one that caught our eye, and also almost blinded us with its reflective capabilities, was the all-over silver sneaker-boot. Major futuristic vibes!
Christopher Kane Had Us Walking On Bubbles
I don't think anyone has ever walked on air — well, at least not until now. Christopher Kane had models strut up and down the runway wearing sneakers with three bubbles as the heel. Creating a heeled sneaker silhouette, this release will be perfect for all you sneaker girls who want a bit of high-end flare in your collection.
The High-Fashion Runner
Street style wasn't scarce at LFW, with the fashion elite hitting the pavement on a mission to be street-styled.
Runners have a place in everyone's wardrobe — they're highly accessible and there's countless colabs to choose from. Running shoes from the likes of ASICS, Salomon and Nike were all spotted on-foot at Fashion Week. Shout-outs to Kiko Kostadinov, Harmony and Boris Bidjan Saberi for making runners a fashion statement — we don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon.
Colourful Kicks Make For Colourful Fits
Bright colour isn't something everyone can pull off. That's why we were surprised to see such colourful kicks outside the most conveted runway shows. Our picks were the M2K Tekno and the Rainbow colourway of the VaporMax Plus.
