Style Recap: Street Style Sneaker Takeaways from NYFW FW19
We've seen a number of different fashion weeks go by already this year, and we've reported on the kicks that have hit the runway. Paris Fashion Week made way for Bunny Boots, diseased Converse, and CDG Air Jordan 1s. While London showed Kiko Kostadinov at his finest, A-COLD-WALL* and Cottweiler coining the 'Sneafer'.
We thought New York would hold the same, with an array of new collaborations getting revealed, but we were let down with minimal kicks actually hitting the runway.
Yet, in the street, almost everyone attending was rocking some major heat. Let's take a look.
The Air Max Plus Came Out To Play
Last year was massive for the infamous Air Max Plus, amplifying its already massive audience in both Australia and Europe. However, who would have thought we would see it in full force at New York Fashion Week. From logo'd out newbies, all the way to beloved classic colourways, the TN showed its true colours on the feet of fashion's elite.
The Dad Shoe Trend is Still Alive and Well
Dad shoes, you either love 'em or you hate 'em. However, amongst the fashion crowd, the dad shoe phenomenon isn't just a trend, it's a lifestyle. Raf Simons' adidas Ozweegos, Martine Rose's Air Monarchs, and Salomon had a large on-foot presence throughout the week. And the amount of Balenciaga Triple S's that were seen on the street outside some of the most-coveted runway shows demonstrated that the trend won't be dying anytime soon. In fact, it might be here to stay well into the foreseeable future!
The Air Max Was Out in Force
Air Max silhouettes will always resonate with the masses, no matter whether you're a hardcore sneaker addict or just haute couture obsessed. That's why we weren't at all surprised to see countless Air Maxes hit the pavement in between runway shows. From the new to the old: Air Max 720s all the way to Air Max 1s. Even a few Off-Whites were scattered in.
No One is 'Off the White' Just Yet
Despite all of the recent talk about the hype for Off-White dying, the kicks are still selling out, and they were out in full force at NY Fashion Week. The recently dropped Air Max 90s have been styled perfectly, both the 'Desert Ore' and black colourway making an appearance. And the Halloween-inspired Blazers, which made a statement in our last NYFW Style Recap, were also back styled in a slimmer fit this time.
