The Travis Scott x McDonald’s Sneakers That Could’ve Been
This article was originally published on September 10, 2020.
After several sought-after sneaker collaborations, Travis Scott has come out and Supersized the notion of hype with his latest project: a collaboration with fast-food giant McDonald’s.
The rapper’s grip on the sneakersphere is undeniable, with many considering him the game’s new ‘Big Mac’ (sorry, Kanye). So, understandably, we were shocked to find out there were no tasty sneakers releasing as part of the co-branded Mcdonald’s merch smorgasbord.
Well, we couldn’t help ourselves, so we cooked up our own fast-food footwear concepts that could’ve dropped alongside La Flame’s McDonald’s collection.
Sink your teeth into these!
Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Quarter Pounder’
The delicious Dunk is inspired by the centrepiece of Travis’ go-to order: a Quarter Pounder with added cheese, bacon, and lettuce.
The bun-like overlays feature sesame-seed details for texture, as ‘Pickle Green’ sections add some acidity to the aesthetic. A ‘Cactus Jack’ face logo is stamped on the lateral side, while some mustard oozes on the midsole to finish things off.
Definitely the tastiest sneaker in the room.
Air Jordan 5 ‘Fries’
Based on the iconic McDonald’s fries packaging, this Air Jordan 5 ain’t no side dish.
Dressed in lush red suede, the upper is accented with a crispy golden hue on the laces, toe box, and speckled shark-tooth midsole. Meanwhile, the McDonald’s ‘Golden Arches’ logo has been given a ‘Cactus Jack’ remix on the lateral side.
Nothing soggy about these joints! Especially the complementary medium-sized serving that comes housed within the unique no-sweat packaging. Don’t want fries with that? You can always opt-out.
Nike Air Max 270 React ‘Sprite’
The reception was mixed when it came to Travis’ Air Max 270 React, but we think this ‘Sprite’ colourway would quench the thirst of plenty of hype fiends.
The final piece of the Travis Scott meal is the bubbly refreshment that inspires this big-bubbled creation, dressed in the familiar grey, green and blue scheme. A bright yellow Swoosh adds some fizz, while condensation detailing on the Air unit caps off this big Max.
