Oregon-based sportswear giant Nike continues its string of collaborations with Paris-based Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons. The Japanese fashion label is giving Nike’s classic silhouette, the Air Max 97, a triple black makeover. The shoes were first unveiled to the public earlier this year in January at CdG’s FW2022 fashion show in Tokyo.
After much anticipation, Nike has released official images of the pair. These will be available at Dover Street Market before being released on SNKRS. According to Hypebeast, the pair of sneakers will be available alongside the rest of the CdG Homme Plus FW22 collection on the official Comme des Garcons e-commerce site in the coming weeks.

Comme des Garçons, a frequent collaborator with Nike Inc. and its subsidiary Converse, first announced the upcoming Air Max 97 collaboration in January as part of the Fall/Winter 2022 show in Tokyo. Now, the release of the collection is fast approaching.
The Air Max 97, known for its clean lines and overall speed aesthetic, was designed by Christian Tresser. The designer conceptualized the sneakers after being inspired by the ripples caused by water droplets falling into a pond. The upcoming Air Max 97 pays homage to the foundation laid by Tresser.
However, Comme des Garçons, led by Rei Kawakubo, added their own variations to the shoe opting to tone down high-speed styles in favor of a more weathered look.
The sneakers’ mudguards are made of leather, while the overlays are speckled with weather detailing. The base of the upper is clad in a vibrant black hue, which contrasts with the upper panels, which feature distressed paneling throughout the shoe. The stealthy appearance extends to the tongue, insoles and shoe laces.
As usual, special Comme des Garcons branding is kept to a minimum, as it only appears on the insoles. The branding is surrounded by three iconic swoosh logos.
The stealth black theme is also carried over to the black Air Max cushioned midsoles and matching rubber outsoles.
In the upcoming shoe, the construction from the panels to the materials is relatively intact and the silhouette mirrors the general silhouettes of the prio versions of the classic. Leather overlays throughout the upper are presented in a unique treatment, whose patina is reminiscent of suede at a glance.
Along with this triple black Air Max 97 makeover, Comme des Garçons and Nike’s partnership will also be releasing a similar white and blue makeover, official images of which have yet to surface.
Although official images of the project have surfaced, none of the parties involved have announced an official release date for the shoe. However, according to outlet Hypebeast, the pair are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
