These ASICS GEL-Kayano 14s Were Apparently Designed Before the JJJJound Colab
Last year’s release of the JJJJound x ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 duo was definitely one of the most hyped collaborations, if not drops, of the year. Seeing a super limited global release featuring two iterations on the classic runner, pairs sold out with the quickness and resell skyrocketed to craziness levels. As expected, JJJJound’s touch on the model brought perfect amounts of silver, white and cream – not unlike inline GEL-Kayano 14s – but something about the combo hit different.,
It’s not unusual in the sneakersphere for brands to take popular collaboration colourways like that to their General Release lines, and right now, much of the surrounding discourse suggests that’s what’s happened on the latest pair of women’s ASICS GEL-Kayano 14s, known as ‘White/Midnight’.
Yes, the colourways appear to share some similarities, but upon closer inspection, they’re not so similar after all. Firstly, the JJJJound colab features a colour palette of mostly silver – found in the overlays – black or white stripes, lots of white mesh, and one pair featuring cream midsoles. On the other hand, this newest rendition features cream across the panels and midnight navy GEL in the midsoles. Plus, according to this ASICS colour design manager, they were designed first.
